Dulcolax is a stimulant laxative . This medication is recommended in cases of occasional constipation related to a recent change in lifestyle (travel) or any recent unexplained constipation. Reserved for adults and children over 6 years old. Stimulating laxatives increase the muscular contractions of the digestive system (peristalsis) to move the contents more quickly, facilitating a shorter colonic transit time . It often takes 6-10 hours for stimulants taken orally to take effect. In patients with chronic constipation caused by irritable bowel syndrome, stimulants may be the only solution, but they should still be taken only in the short term.
